Lag is ever-present in Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) Games. This page shows the effects of lag in the popular MMO EverQuest II, even though you think it might not be there. But please note that lag is not caused by the game; Everquest II is not the problem here. Many times, the problem is outdated networking components inside your PC which slows network traffic and delays updates to and from your game.
Slow Updates are a symptom of lag that’s especially worrisome. You might not be able to see the result when you’re playing at home, but lag causes other players in your party to appear far from where they actually are. This can be deadly during a raid, when the position of all your party members can determine who gets hit by the raid boss and who gets healed at the right time. Especially if you’re in charge of buffs, heals, debuffs or other support functions, if you try to click on a player or mob who suddenly isn’t there, you’re going to suffer a wipe.
As the demonstration below shows, Slow Updates are more common and sneaky than you think…
We set up a side-by-side demonstration with two characters on the same server, in the same zone, using two identically configured Online Gaming PCs with the same graphics settings.

We connected them through the same router to the same Internet connection to equalize for network and Internet conditions, then started playing alongside each other.
The results from the video are clear – lag is everywhere you look and even some places you don’t. A faster graphics card, or processor, or more memory might help adjust your in-game performance, but none of these components address the problem of lag. Only the Killer Xeno Pro gaming network card is designed to fight lag in online games.
